Christ's Death & God's Justice
The Cross of Christ demonstrates God's justice in punishing sin as well as his grace and mercy to sinners.
• God's holiness and hatred of sin demands the punishment of sin by death
• God's love required the death of The Lamb of God " who takes away the
sins of the world" JOHN 1:29
2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 God caused Christ to become sin on our behalf so that by identifying with his death we might be put right with God.
How could that be right? you might ask.
The apostle Peter gives the answer in
1 PETER 2:19-24 Although Jesus had committed no sin, he did not attempt to vindicate himself or return the insults he received. Instead he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly. In other words Jesus gave us an example to follow when we experience injustice that appears to go unpunished - he handed final judgement over to God who knows everything that is happening.
The Cross As God's Answer To Evil
