A Centurion's Faith Amazes Jesus MATTHEW 8:5-10
In this episode Jesus gives a Roman centurion who commanded a hundred men the highest accolade given to anyone in the gospels. He says in verse 10: "I haven't seen this level of faith among any of my fellow Jews".
In verses 8 and 9 the centurion says as he asks Jesus to heal his sick slave. "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
The centurion recognises:
1 Jesus is A MAN UNDER AUTHORITY, like himself.
"I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes.
I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
2 JESUS' AUTHORITY COMES FROM GOD
"Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed."
3 IF GOD WANTS TO HEAL HIS SLAVE, ALL JESUS NEEDS TO DO IS TO SAY A WORD - "Be healed."
That's real faith!
